BlackBerry Reset

Don't let yours be bricked!

BlackBerry's own site here says "As a reminder, the legacy services for BlackBerry 7.1 OS and earlier, BlackBerry 10 software, BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 and earlier versions, will no longer be available after January 4, 2022. As of this date, devices running these legacy services and software through either carrier or Wi-Fi connections will no longer reliably function". This means that the App World and BBID servers have been turned off and any devices signed in to a BlackBerry ID now give no options except to wipe all data!

I suggest doing this to make sure that your BlackBerry will still work. This is the method to reset it.

1. Turn the device off with the 'end' button.

2. Remove and re-insert your SIM card then press the button again. If you removed the battery, it will turn on by itself.

3. Enter your password when asked. Wait for the 'You're using a new SIM Card' message. If you don't see this, you don't have a BBID.

4. Scroll and choose 'Sign Out'. Read the message then choose 'Wipe Data'.

5. This will reset the device so that you can use it without a BBID.
